Driveway PavingView full sizeFull paver driveway to the garage
A complete drive in grey pavers, turning area included. On a lot this size the paving is the largest single surface on the property, so the base underneath it is most of the job.
No down payment. You pay when the project is finished.

Driveway Paving · Sammamish
A Sammamish driveway is easy to build and easy to build badly, and the reason is the same as everything else on this plateau: level ground over glacial till has nowhere to send water. On a sloped lot a driveway sheds its runoff downhill and the base drains by gravity. Here it does neither by default. A vehicle-rated base sitting on ground that stays saturated for months loses density under repeated wheel loading, and the surface ruts along the lines you drive. Built with the drainage designed in — falls across the surface, a base graded to an outfall — a plateau driveway is as durable as any. Built as a flat slab on flat ground, it is not.

What we get called about
Sammamish has the big flat-ish lots that most of this market does not, and the catch that comes with them: a plateau holds water rather than shedding it, and seasonally saturated pockets turn up in places that look perfectly ordinary in July. That makes drainage the first question on a surprising number of these properties. The second Sammamish fact is HOA density — Klahanie, Trossachs, Sahalee and most newer developments have architectural standards that apply to fencing, materials and front-of-house work, so approval is a scheduling item on nearly every project.
Worth knowing in Sammamish
Put a fall on it even though the ground is flat. The instinct on a level plateau lot is to build a level drive, and a level drive here ponds. A cross-fall you cannot feel driving over it is what keeps the surface dry and the base drained.
The method
The sequence does not change between neighbourhoods — what changes is the ground it is applied to. Full detail on the driveway paving service page.
A drive that falls toward the house needs a drainage answer designed in, not added later. On a sloped Seattle lot that is the majority of them.
Substantially deeper than a patio. Undersized excavation is the single most common reason a driveway fails, and it is invisible once the surface is on.
Crushed rock, compacted layer by layer, with geotextile separation where the subgrade is soft. This is the layer carrying the car.
Pavers bedded, cut and edge-restrained; concrete formed, reinforced, poured and jointed; asphalt laid and rolled to compaction while hot.
Street apron, garage threshold and the joints against any path or step, which are the points that show wear first and the points a rushed job leaves rough.
What it costs in Sammamish
Sammamish driveways sit mid-range in $12 to $32 per square foot with good access, and the drainage under the base is where the durability sits rather than where to economise. The other cost driver is extent — plateau properties frequently want a long approach plus a wide parking and turning area, and that adds up quickly at any rate.

Local questions
General questions about this service are on the service page. These are the ones that only come up here.
More than a sloped one does, which surprises people. On a hillside lot, gravity removes the surface water and drains the base for free. On a level plateau over glacial till there is no fall to shed rainfall and almost no downward permeability, so water sits on the surface and in the base beneath it. A vehicle-rated base standing in saturated ground for months loses density under repeated loading and ruts along the wheel lines. The answer is falls designed across the surface and a base graded to a real outfall, not simply more depth.
By breaking the surface up rather than reducing it. A wide expanse of one material in one pattern reads as hard standing regardless of quality. Introducing a contrasting border course, a change of paving direction between the approach and the parking area, or a planted strip separating the two gives the eye something to read and makes the same square footage look considerably smaller. On a plateau lot with room to do it, a planted island in a turning area works particularly well and also gives the runoff somewhere useful to go.
Generally yes, and it is worth establishing early. Klahanie, Trossachs, Sahalee and most of the newer Sammamish developments operate architectural standards, and a driveway is among the most visible elements on any property — material, colour, edging and sometimes the permitted extent of hard surface all commonly fall within scope. It is a scheduling item rather than an obstacle: submit over the winter for a spring build, since a driveway is not a project you can leave half-finished while a board meets.
It needs a designed destination, and on a plateau that has to be deliberate. A driveway replaces permeable ground with an impermeable surface, so rainfall that used to soak in now runs off as concentrated flow — and on level ground it will simply find the lowest point, which may be a neighbour's boundary or your own garage. The answer is falls that direct water into planted areas or a drainage run with a real outfall. On a large drive that volume is significant, and it is worth designing rather than discovering.
